Hodgdon Clays Smokeless Powder 14 Oz
by HODGDON , IMR & WINCHESTER
Introduced in January, 1992, CLAYS has “taken the clay target world by storm”. It is the most clean burning , consistent 12 ga. 7/8., 1 oz. and 1 1/8 oz. powder available today. The superb burning characteristics of this powder produce soft, smooth recoil, ultra clean burning, mild muzzle report, and excellent patterns. These features transfer directly to handgun applications where target shooting is the main goal. 45 ACP and 38 Special are only two of the cartridges where CLAYS provides “tack driving” target accuracy with flawless functioning. Grain shape is flake.

Long time favorite for snubbies
Has been my go-to powder for 442 and model 10 .38 specials on top of both 125 and 158 semi-wadcutters. Burns clean and meters well. Makes great powder puff loads for smaller folks and those just starting to shoot revolvers.

Used in Teams shotguns in tournaments and practice
Reloaded 12 gauge shells and 20 gauge shells. Works best in Winchester AA, Remington STS and Remington Otto hulls. Cleanest burning powder I have ever used.

Trap or Skeet, Clays Can’t Be Beat!
I use Clays for both Trap and Skeet and have never found a softer shooting, cleaner burning powder for 1 oz and 1 1/8 oz loads. Great patterns, and extremely temperature stable. This powder actually cut my shotgun patch usage in half. Highly recommended!

Consistently Great Loads
I have been loading all of my trap loads over the past 15-plus years with this powder. I shoot registered trap shoots and a miss costs a lot of money. I have patterned and chronographed my loads with this power and find it brings me the highest consistency in both better than any powder I’ve ever used. It is also the cleanest burning and least fouling of anything out there. With this powder, I prefer to shoot my reloads more than new shells. Clays has never failed me and gives me the extreme confidence I need shot after shot.

I’m very pleased with it.
I’m very pleased with this powder. Now I shoot target so I shoot for accuracy. I shoot mainly pistol. I use this for my 9mm Springfield Loaded, my Colt Gold Cup, and my Ruger Super Blackhawk. The Springfield, since it is a very tight 1911 requires near the max load for the pistol to cycle. I’ve found it works well with a 125gr bullet at 3.2. All the other pistols I’m mainly down at the lower end of the scale. It works flawlessly. Very very consistant. It meteres well too. I use a Dillon 550b and their digital scale. The only thing I found it doesn’t work well was a 357 158gr DEWC. What’s nice about this company Hodgdon is they have a good on-line reference and a number to call if you can’t find what you are looking for. In my case the gentleman there suggested Titegroup. Now I’ve been reloading for about 30 years now. It’s my opinion that is this one of the best to use. It’s also nice because it burns hot so overall it’s really cheap per load. Another interesting thing about this powder is if you try and tinker with the grains of powder. I’ve found that once I find a load that the semi auto cycles, it’s fine. The loads will remain constant as far as accuracy. It would just be if you would want a faster fps. But accuracy, it looks like the overall cartridge will be more accurate than I can shoot it. So it’s simple. Once again, I highly recommend this powder.
